Individual counseling is a
process of creating a clear, balanced, empowered and nurturing
relationship with yourself and with others; leaving you free to be
an authentic and self-actualized person out in the world.
Individual counseling was once
focused almost exclusively on the why question, and
concentrated intensely on an archeological dig into the past. All
of this focus on why generated theories as to why humans
behave in certain ways; but was too lengthy, costly and largely
ineffective in producing new behaviors or patterns of living. Now
there is a whole group of therapies that focus on what we are
doing in the present, how we can make changes in the what
(the process of thinking, feeling and behaving), and thus create
new ways of living. What’s the difference in these
therapies? Each therapy has its own approach. Some are mental:
focused on changing thoughts and beliefs, and addressing the larger
meaning of your life. Others are more emotional: focused on
identifying, experiencing and processing your feelings and
emotions. Still others are more behavioral: focused on initiating
new actions and behaviors. I can help you experience all of these
approaches in an
integrated way. My
skill plus your input allows us to create your approach to
therapy – strengthening your life skills and assisting you in
creating the life you most want.
